Today is the 68th anniversary of the death of one of the great scientists who used his gifts admirably for the betterment of those less fortunate. While one normally only associates him with the peanut (and one wonders how much he’s rolling around in his grave right now with all of the peanut allergies children are having), his life was remarkable and he is a true scientific hero. See links below… I’ve included two illustrative quotes from the 1st.

God gave them to me” he would say about his ideas, “How can I sell them to someone else?”

“He could have added fortune to fame, but caring for neither, he found happiness and honor in being helpful to the world.” – Epitaph on the grave of George Washington Carver.
